Firefox extension — PDF Download manager

I found a new, at least to me, extension for Firefox. The "PDF Download" extension has solved one of the few frustrations that I had (past tense) with Firefox. Often, when I clicked on a web site link, I didn't check to see if it was a PDF file.

Of course, if I was at a site that was not particularly trustworthy, I probably would hover over the link to see what it was. Generally, this will really tell you what the link is or where it will go.

However, with JavaScript, the web site programmer can make the web browser's status bar say what _he_ wants it to say.

That's one of the good security options in Firefox -- you can go to Tools, Options, Web Features, and click on the "Advanced" button for JavaScript. Always uncheck the "Change status bar text" checkbox. The only box I have checked is "Change images."

Anyway, before you install the PDF Download extension, if you click on a link for a .pdf file, Firefox 1.07 seems to hang until the file finishes downloading and Adobe Reader opens. It's too late to say anything but "Oops!"

After you install the PDF Download extension, when you click on a link for a .pdf file, Firefox will give you a message box that tells you the size of the PDF file and gives you options to Download it, Open in a new tab, View as HTML in a new tab, and Cancel.

Very nice addition for your Firefox installation.
