Firefox "Extensions" That I Use and Recommen

If you are using Firefox, one of the first things you notice is the built-in Google Search bar. But, if you're like me, you think it is too small. The extension "Resize Search Bar" is the solution for this — it adds a bar at the left of the search box that lets you grab and stretch the box.

I often use the "Image Zoom" extension. This neat little add-on for Firefox allows me to right-click on a web page image and zoom it down to 10%, up to 400%, or to custom dimensions. So, if you want to check out the detail in the image (assuming the image actually has enough detail to make a difference), Image Zoom will come in handy.



"PDF Download" is another good choice for everyone. Rather than automatically opening an Adobe Reader .PDF file, PDF Download gives you the option to save it to your hard drive.

"OpenBook" is a great improvement to the default Add Bookmark dialog. OpenBook allows you to create new folders in your bookmarks and also allows you easily switch from one bookmark directory to another for saving your new bookmarks.

One of my most recent additions to my system is "undoclosetab" — that's Undo Close Tab! Ever closed a browser tab and immediately said "OOPS!" I have. Undoclosetab comes to the rescue and lets me reopen the tab on the same web page.

Finally, the "Tabbrowser Preferences" extension gives you much more control over tabs in Firefox than you get in the standard Firefox browser.

Of course, since I design web sites, there are also a number of Firefox extensions that I also use that are designed to make those efforts easier.

Want to see which extensions you have currently installed? On Firefox's menu bar, click on Tools, Extensions. This will open the Extensions dialog box.

Where can you find extensions? Same place, just click on the Get More Extensions link at the bottom. This will open the right web page at Mozilla.org.
