User accounts allow Microsoft Windows to differentiate between users on a computer and the rights they should have. Each user account is assigned their own location on the hard disk for file storage. There is a collection of settings pertaining to each account that is stored in the computer's Registry.

To limit Internet access in Windows XP user accounts here is what you can do.

Click on Start

Then click on Run. The Run window will appear.

Click on the textbox in the Run Window

Type in the following text: Control Panel

Press enter or click OK. The Control Panel window will appear

Double click on the User Accounts icon. You will gain access to the User Accounts Properties window.

Should you not see this icon then click on "Switch to Classic View" found on the left side of the Control Panel window. The User Accounts icon should appear. If this does not work, maximize the Control Panel window or scrolling up and down until you find the User Accounts icon.

Double click on the icon and the User Accounts Properties window will appear.

Click on "Create A New Account" in the User Accounts Properties window. You'll see a textbox appear

Type in a name for the new account.

Click on Next.

If you want to give the new account administrative privileges, click on the little circle to the left of the text "Computer administrator."

If you want to limit the new account administrative privileges, click on the little circle to the left of the text "Limited."

Click on "Create Account." The user account will be created, and you will be able to login to it at the Windows XP Login Screen.
