Subscriber Fran wrote recently about a problem she was having:

It sounds like Fran has "caught something." I wrote to her that I'd assume that she is running a current, up-to-date anti-virus program with up-to-date anti-virus signatures and that it's doing its job. (This isn't always a good assumption, but it's a place to start and a good reminder...)

I recommended that she try downloading the antispyware / anti-adware program that I use. It has a full-function 15-day free trial — full-function, as in install it, scan with it, and fix the problems it found AND have an allways-running antispyware scanner, too — all as part of the free trial! She should not need to uninstall any other anti-spyware/anti-adware program that she has in order to run the scanner.

I also pointed out that, if she doesn't run an always-running antispyware / antiadware program, CounterSpy could be a big help to her. If she does have an always-running antispyware / antiadware program, she can still use the "scan on demand" function, but she should turn off CounterSpy's always-running function while any other antispyware program's always-running function is running — the two programs would slow her computer to a crawl as each tries to open each file every time the computer touched it.

Anyway, CounterSpy is known for finding and removing adware and spyware "infections" — the things that drag down your computer system, as well as preventing them from happening in the first place.
