IPCop is a free, effective and versatile firewall application that runs on the Linux operating system. IPCop works with DSL, analog modems, cable modems and standard wired or wireless network connections. You can configure IPCop as a firewall for many different environments.
Step 1 Decide how exactly you want to use IPCop. You can use IPCop as a firewall on your personal PC, or you can use IPCop as a firewall server on a home or small office network.
Step 2 Download the latest version of IPCop from the SourceForge website. Install IPCop on your Linux computer.
Step 3 Set up a network connection. Identify which interface you wish to firewall, whether it is a specific network card or a wireless interface, and record the MAC address and interface ID.
Step 4 Browse to the IP address "192.168.1.1" and click on "Dialup." This takes you to the dialup page, where you select the interface you intend to firewall.
Step 5 Select the appropriate interface and then browse back to the homepage and click on "connect." You should now have a connection to the Internet.
Step 6 Configure IPCop as a firewall by browsing again to the IP address "192.168.1.1." You can filter traffic with a number of different criteria, including IP addresses, port numbers, protocol types and even web addresses.
