How to Rip DVD's in Linux with AcidRip

Ripping DVD's in Linux could be a confusing process if it wasn't for AcidRip. It tells MPlayer and Mencoder exactly what to do so you don't have to. If you have DVD's to rip, don’t worry. All you have to do is follow these simple instructions to rip DVD's in Linux with AcidRip.

Step1 Install AcidRip on your Linux operating system. The installation should install Mendcoder and MPlayer; but if it doesn't, you can download them from the MPlayer website.

Step2 Click on “Applications” and choose “AcidRip” or you can type "acidrip" from your command line and start the program.

Step3 Place your DVD in the drive and then on the right-hand-side of the window where it says "Video Source" type the path to your DVD drive. Select "Load"

Step4 Select which title to rip. Usually the best title to rip is the one with the longest playback time. In the "General" tab select what size you want the final rip to be and the bitrate of the audio.

Step5 Go to the "Video" tab and select the codec to use and the amount of passes you want the program to make.

Step6 Wait for the DVD to finish. It can take anywhere from 5 hours for a single pass encode or 9 hours for a 2-pass encode.
