The Tips and keyboard shortcuts shown below will work in practically all the Microsoft Office programs (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Project, Publisher, Visio, FrontPage, InfoPath, OneNote). In this article we’ll show you four ways to Insert a degree Symbol.

1) This is the keyboard shortcut for the Degree Symbol.

The first way is probably the easiest because you only have to press and hold the ALT key while typing 0176. “ALT+0176”

2) You can also retrieve the Degree Symbol via the Symbol Command.

Go to the Insert tab.
And select Symbol

You have to click in Office 2007 on More Symbols.
Now you have to find the Degree Symbol in the dialog box.

And now double click on the Degree Symbol.
In Office 2007 you can see in the bottom of the screen the ALT code that you can use.

3) This is how you can Insert a Degree Symbol via Autocorrect.

Go to the Insert tab
Click on symbol
And select AutoCorrect

In the next dialog box you can fill in the appropriate term, this would be something like “degreesymbol”.

Click OK and your done; every time you type degreesymbol autocorrect will change it into the Degree ° Symbol.

4) The last way for inserting a Degree Symbol is via the Windows Character Map Tool.

I always use the first or the second option and I suggest you do to but for those who do want to know here is the fourth method.

Click on Start
All Programs
Select Accessories
Select System Tools
and click on Character Map

When you double click on the symbol it will be copied to you clipboard and you can paste it into your desired program.
